Where is your family?

Do you have family that you haven't seen in a really long time? Perhaps you have a child that is asking questions about family members they never met. Has is been years since you've seen a cousin or aunt? It might be time to plan that family reunion. Other family members probably thought about it and never acted on the urge. Get that address book out and start planning your next family reunion.

Planning your family reunion

  • Planning your reunion can be a struggle if you are doing it alone. The very first thing you should do is start a committee. You need to at least have four members of your family who share the same passion for planning your reunion and assign each a specific function. Each subcommittee will then function under your guidance and you will find this is the easiest way to plan your reunion. The main duty for your committee is :
  • Come up with a central location.
  • Decide the number of days you will spend at location
  • Determine your activities, food and hotel expenses.
  • Come up with a family and individual price for members based on the activities and food you will provide
  • Serve as information ambassadors for the reunion
  • Make sure all family members are contacted and informed

Find your family members, send out flyer's announcing your reunion and make sure they have a tentative date. This way they can begin to schedule the time off. Talk to older family members and ask them about long lost family members. Do a little research and be creative.

Pick a Location, figure out if you want a cruise or a central location.
Start small a build. With these economic times you want to make sure everyone who wants to attend can afford it.

Activities, discuss how many children, adults, and seniors will be attending and what kind of family activities your want to have. You want to keep everyone engaged in your event.

Theme tours, are popular and you can pick exciting locations and let the bus take your family members from place to place. This is a fun way to explore exciting destinations together.

Start a savings account, usually credit unions have the best interest earnings. Encourage your family members to send their money(family reunion fees) in early and put the money in some kind of account where you can earn money. This extra savings can go towards extra activities, food, or to lower every ones hotel fees.

Find Hotel Accommodations, this is key to bringing your family together. If planned correctly you can have breakfast together each morning at a discount rate or even free depending on the hotel you pick. This will serve as a gathering place to discuss the days events.

Have fun, this is your first reunion and you want it special so create what you envision.
